The Government has introduced annual
recognition procedure for the National Sports Federations (NSFs) from the year
2010. The NSFs which complied with the
Government guidelines and furnished complete information/documents sought by the
Government have been granted annual recognition. 51 NSFs have been granted recognition by the
government for the year 2011. This was stated by Shri
Ajay Maken, Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs
& Sports, in the Lok Sabha today, in a written reply to a question by Dr. Nilesh N. Rane & Dr. M. Jagannath. The Government does not deal with the State level
Federations/ Associations.
The Sports Minister further stated
that the following NSFs have not yet been granted recognition for various
reasons such as non-compliance of the Government guidelines, non-submission of
complete documents etc:-

The Sports Minister further stated
that besides, the NSFs in the disciplines of Hockey, Netball, Throwball and Gymnastic have also not been granted annual
recognition due to dispute between various factions in the management of those
Federations. Compliance to the guidelines of the Government by the NSFs has been
made mandatory to receive Government recognition and thereby become eligible to
receive financial as well as other forms of assistance from Government of
India. No National Sports Federation has
been given annual recognition by the Government which has not adhered to the
Government guidelines, the Minister added.
